Sierra Magazine Spread

I was recently commissioned to shoot a few images for Sierra Magazine. It’s long been a dream of mine to work with a progressive environmental organization like the Sierra Club, so to say I was excited is an understatement. My images were paired with a wonderful article about the importance of nature to humans, written by Richard Louv for the May/June 2019 edition. He’s my very favorite nature writer, so I was equally surprised and thrilled when I found out my images would be used for his article. A separate article by Jason Mark, also used an image of mine, and the Praying Mantis image from my project The Gift, was on the cover. My brother was kind enough to take a quick break from farming to hold this little guy or gal in his hand while I got the perfect shot. I think I took five or six. It’s not easy to get a small moving creature in perfect focus!

If you have the time, I hope you’ll take a few minutes and read the articles. Access and time spent in nature is of the utmost importance for all humans, and Richard Louv makes a wonderful argument for it.
